Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare’s Regional Rehabilitation Center demonstrates its commitment to clinical excellence in distinct ways.

  • The Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), receiving four commendations in the last survey period.
  • Its staff of Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses (CRRN), physical, occupational and speech therapists and audiologists that regularly obtain higher education, board certification and specialized credentialing. 
  • It successfully implemented Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in the inpatient rehabilitation unit, and won a Team Excellence Award: Striving for Clinical Excellence at FSLH in 2009 for this work.
  • In 2009, the Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabiliation Unit (CIIRP) was recognized for 20 years of continued dedication to Quality Improvement in Rehabilitation from Uniform Data Systems for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSmr). 

But perhaps the most important evidence of the center’s clinical excellence is in its daily treatment of patients.

From newborn to geriatrics, The Regional Rehabilitation Center is the one-stop leader in rehabilitation services for the region. It serves patients with physical disabilities resulting from stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, cardiac disease, arthritis, orthopedics and amputation. And consistently, the center has scored higher than the nation and the region in patient satisfaction and outcomes. “Each and every day, our team members advocate for the health and wellness of our patients and community,” said Mini Malhotra, MBA, MHA, OTR, Program Director/Administrator for Rehabilitation Services. “We are proud of our pledge that patient satisfaction and positive clinical outcomes always remain the heart of our work.”

In this report, you’ll meet Sandy Sherman and Glen Hance. Hance, who had a stroke, and Sherman, who has Guillain-Barré Syndrome, used many of the comprehensive services provided at the Center, including inpatient and outpatient therapy. They’ll be the first to tell you of the clinical excellence they witnessed daily at The Regional Rehabilitation Center, because that excellence meant one important thing to each of them: going home.

Visiting Hours

Visitors on labor and delivery are limited to two visitors (the father or partner) and one other person. They will be banded with an ID band that can not be interchanged. We are sorry, but visitors under the age of 16 will not be allowed in labor and delivery. Siblings will be allowed to visit the new baby when you are transferred to post-partum.

Visiting hours in post-partum are limited so that mother and baby can rest.

  • No visitors from 3pm to 5pm (except for the father)
  • Fathers may visit from 5:30am to 10pm
  • Grandparents, brothers and sisters of newborns may visit from 10am to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm
  • Other visitors may visit from 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm.

When is Quiet Time?

Our quiet time is daily from 3pm-5pm. Fathers are welcome to stay, but others are asked to honor this time as a few special hours for bonding as a new family and for rest and recuperation for the new mom.

About the Birthplace

Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare’s Maternity Services - “The Birthplace” - welcomes more than 2,000 newborns into the world every year. The Birthplace includes:

  • Labor and Delivery
  • Post-Partum
  • Nursery
  • Level II Special Care Nursery.

The Birthplace was recently awarded HealthGrades 2009/2010 Maternity Care Specialty Excellence Award. This exclusive award places FSLH within the top ten percent of hospitals in the nation for maternity care services for the fifth year in a row. HealthGrades is the leading healthcare ratings organization, providing ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians to consumers, corporations, health plans and hospitals.

Additional information for visitors and patients:

  • Visitors are reminded to wash their hands before holding the baby. A new baby’s immune system is not fully developed and they are very susceptible to germs.
  • No food is allowed in the labor room.
  • A waiting room is available for additional family and friends. For the safety and security of your family we ask that children not be left unattended in the waiting room at any time. To respect the privacy of our other patients, visitors are asked to remain in the waiting room and not in the hallways.
  • We ask that when you visit your loved one, please be respectful of our other patients. Please no sitting on clean beds, wheelchairs, or using the bathroom in patient rooms.
  • For your convenience there is a public restroom located on the main floor of the hospital, adjacent to the Gift Shop.
  • Patient nourishment is provided solely for patients. Visitors are welcome to visit our cafeteria located on the ground floor. If you have food from home, please put the patient’s name and the date on the containers.

Additional information for patients:

  • We strongly encourage you to select your baby’s doctor (pediatrician or family practice physician) prior to labor. At the discretion of your physician, pain relief options are available. There is a Nurse Anesthetist on the unit 24 hours-a-day. Due to possible emergencies, anesthesia may not always be immediately available, but we will work to make you as comfortable as possible. Your comfort is important to us and alternative pain management may be used.
  • To protect your privacy, our staff does not give patient information over the phone with regard to patient arrival or status in labor and delivery.
  • TV and phone service are available for a daily fee. Free wireless internet is available – ask your nurse for the sign-in and password.
  • Cell phones are allowed but limited to your patient room and the family lounge. When using the phone or TV, please be respectful to the needs of your roommate. Calls are not accepted through the main switchboard after 9pm; please try to apply the same courtesy with your cell phone.
