The dental residency training program is a one-year post-doctoral professional education program which offers special opportunity for advanced comprehensive clinical experiences in the hospital setting, additional training in the sciences basic to general dental practice, and a supervised clinical dentistry program.

Five dental residents are accepted into the dental program each year.

Accreditation Status

Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare General Practice Residency Program was last site visited on May 5, 2005. The ADA has authorized use of the following statement with regard to the program accreditation status granted by the Commission on Dental Accreditation: "The general practice residency is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of approval without reporting requirements" . This is the highest possible accreditation status. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. New York State Licensure Requirements

Chapters 76 and 726 of the Laws of 2004 state that beginning January 1, 2007, applicants for initial dental licensure in New York State mustsuccessfully complete an approved dental residency program of atleast one year's duration accredited by a national accrediting body acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). After this date, the NERB option will no longer be available.
