The 22nd annual Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals Telethon aired Friday, May 30, 2014, on WKTV NewsChannel 2. Broadcast live from the Center for Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Services, 1650 Champlin Avenue, Utica, the telethon raised $539,462, which will be used to support programs, services and equipment that benefit Women’s and Children’s Services at FSLH.

“This year’s Telethon was one of our most successful, surpassing last year's total by more than $14,500,” said Andrea MacDiarmid, CMN coordinator. “What is most significant is the overwhelming dedication and commitment of our business and community members who raise funds each year for the children we care for at FSLH. We are blessed to be part of an amazing community.”

The medical staff at The Birthplace identified a need for a transport incubator to transport sick or premature newborns from our Level II Special Care Nursery to outside hospitals. Providing the Maternity staff the most advanced technology greatly supports the ability of The Birthplace to care for newborns, especially those that require special care, and enables FSLH to continue to be the area’s leader in healthcare delivery. A portion of the funds raised at this year’s Telethon will go toward purchasing an Airborne 185+ Transport Incubator for the Special Care Nursery.

The Airborne 185+ Transport Incubator is designed to provide exceptional care to newborns during inter-hospital transport. The compact design helps ensure the baby’s comfort, and it is equipped with everything needed to provide safe transport outside of the hospital, including a double-wall hood that reduces heat loss while providing total access and high visibility of the newborn from all angles as well as a high-intensity exam light that enables you see the baby during transport.

Other programs benefiting from the CMN Telethon include an Infant CPR Education Program and educational programs for physicians, nurses, first responders and other medical personnel so that they may improve their techniques and teamwork in simulated hospital scenarios through the Keith A. Fenstemacher Center for Continuous Learning at FSLH.

CMN raises funds year-round. Fund-raisers or donations for CMN Hospitals can be arranged by contacting Andrea MacDiarmid at 315.624.5454 or amacdiar@mvnhealth.com. Miracle Home Makeover tickets are also available for $100 each and may be purchased by calling 315.624.5600.
