The 22nd annual Bowling for Miracles Bowl-A-Thon to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) of Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare’s (FSLH) Foundation is taking place on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Pin-O-Rama Recreation Center, located at 1724 Genesee Street in Utica. The event is sponsored by the FSLH Foundation and CMN media partners WKTV NewsChannel 2 and Lite 98.7. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, January 22.
Shifts are at 11am and 2pm; teams of four or five members are welcome. Children are encouraged to participate and bumpers are available. The minimum pledge for adults is $40 and $25 for children under 16. Pledges include three games of bowling and shoe rental. Incentive packages and prize giveaways are available.
All proceeds from Bowling for Miracles 2013 support Women’s and Children’s Services at FSLH and make it possible for children like Brayana Olsen of Whitesboro, one of the CMN Miracle Children, to receive specialized care close to home.
Brayana’s dad was in the delivery room with her and in Afghanistan at the same time thanks to funds raised through CMN. Although separated by nearly 7,000 miles, Brandon, a member of the United States Marine Corps serving in Afghanistan, was able to see his wife, Meghan, as she delivered their first child at The Birthplace at FSLH. Brandon felt like he was in the room beside her thanks to modern technology, Skype, and a compassionate team of nurses and doctors who arranged for Brandon to see Brayana’s birth through a laptop computer in the surgical suite.
“Brayana’s story is a wonderful example of how funds raised through CMN events like Bowl-A-Thon make a difference in the level of care we are able to provide,” stated Betsey Weaver, stewardship and special events coordinator. “Whether you bowl or donate to someone who is bowling, your gift helps to change lives.”
