On Monday, April 23, Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) will host a culture fair from 9am to 3pm in AC Conference Rooms 3, 4 and 5 at the St. Luke’s Campus, 1656 Champlin Avenue, Utica.

Jean Skahan of the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees will give two presentations during the fair on how to enhance health outcomes for individuals of varying cultures. Skahan will present “Better Health Outcomes for Our New Neighbors” at 11am and noon.

Identifying and addressing cultural barriers is critical in the healthcare industry in order to build strong patient relationships.

Those interested in learning about the many cultures in our community are invited to attend.

Posters created by students at SUNYIT Utica-Rome and FSLH employees will be on display throughout the day. The posters provide fun facts and details on a variety of cultures, including Bosnian, Burmese and Vietnamese.
