FSLH’s Imaging Center Open House and Ribbon Cutting
Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) invites the community to an open house and ribbon cutting for our new Imaging Center on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from 4pm to 6:30pm.
The Imaging Center, located in the Utica Business Park in the MorganStanley/SmithBarney Building at 106 Business Park Drive, Utica, offers women’s services including digital mammography, bone densitometry, stereotactic and ultrasound breast biopsy and ultrasound. The new location employs 18 staff members and includes 6,194 square feet of space.
“Our new Imaging Center features an Adirondack-theme with a relaxing atmosphere for patients, including a waiting room with a fireplace, 42” flat screen television and refreshments,” said Steven J. Brown, DM, FACHE, senior vice president and chief operating officer for FSLH. “We see a large volume of patients each year for imaging services and this free standing location is more desirable than a hospital setting and provides easy access for our patients.”
Part of the expansion was made possible by our generous donors - Faxton St. Luke’s Volunteer Association, Natalie and Warren Brown and Northland Communications. Their gifts enable FSLH to provide a beautiful, comfortable, state of the art imaging center for our community.
“In 2011, our Imaging team performed more than 16,650 mammograms and we know women want a warm, inviting environment that will enhance their comfort while receiving these services, so this new space is a nice complement to their care” said Sean Whip, RT(R)CT, administrative director of Medical Imaging at FSLH. “Designated by the American College of Radiology (ACR), our Imaging Center is the only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence in the Mohawk Valley. Our staff is committed to providing exceptional qualitycare to our patients and our accomplishment of being named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence demonstrates this.”
The Imaging Center is also proud to feature a Breast Patient Navigator Program, in whichspecially trained nurses address the physical and psychological needs of patients and their families through education and support every step of the way.
This past month, Suzy Burns, RN, CBPN-IC, earned the designation of Certified Breast Patient Navigator through the completion of the National Consortium of Breast Centers’ (NCBC) Breast Patient Navigator Certification Program. This certification program validates Burns’ knowledge and skills in navigating a patient through their breast care/cancer continuum of care.
“The Breast Care Center of FSLH’s Regional Cancer Center has always emphasized our focus on the patient and we are proud of that commitment,” said Burns. “This certification is a validation of our high standard of patient care and accountability to our community.”
