On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare’s (FSLH) Regional Rehabilitation Center offers “Introduction to Neuromuscular Developmental Technique (NDT) – Part II,” an educational course for physical therapists, occupational therapists and students in related fields. It will take place at 5pm in the Rehabilitation Gym on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) at the Center for Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Services on the St. Luke’s Campus, 1650 Champlin Avenue, Utica.

Victoria Ponce, PT, DPT, physical therapist at FSLH, will review how to use NDT principles to increase functional use of patients’ lower extremities for standing and walking. Ponce will demonstrate how to facilitate patients’ movements for mid-stance alignment and effective weight shift in preparation for the swing phase of gait. Treatment ideas for increased functional use of the extremities involved will be discussed, including how to incorporate the use of upper extremities to improve gait and identifying manual cues that promote the objective.

New York State Continuing Education Units (NYS CEU) will be provided for all physical therapists and physical therapy assistants. Occupational therapists and certified occupational therapy assistants are welcome to attend and will receive a certificate of participation to submit to the appropriate organizations to receive credit.

The cost to attend is $20 to be paid at the event. Register by emailing voliver@mvnhealth.com or call (315) 624-8716.
